Detroit Takes Bite Out Of Texas

The Tigers put a quick beat-down on Gaylord Perry. Norm Cash knocked him out of the box with a three run shot in the fifth inning. Al Kaline swatted four hits with a dinger.

It was all Detroit in game two as well. Alan Trammell had a rare noisy day at bat with a walk, single, and two doubles. Tommy Bridges was on point in a complete game.

July 27: Texas 10, Detroit 6

The Rangers broke out the lumber to salvage the finale. Six different Texans had multiple hits, led by Al Oliver with four. Ferguson Jenkins’ final line wasn’t overly impressive, but he had allowed just one earned run through 8.1 innings before Cash drilled a three-run bomb against him. Cash also collected a walk, single, and triple in the contest. Cash has homered in three straight and beefed up his wOBA to .402.

The teams split their six contests for the season.
