Seattle sucked the drama out of the series pretty quick as they claimed the set in a not-so-close second game. Davis reached base safely four times to lead a parade of Seattle runners against Danny Jackson.

Hal McRae swatted a single and two doubles hitting second for the Royals, but the next five batters in the order combined for zilch hits against a wicked Randy Johnson. The Big Unit pitched his fourth nine inning start and lowered his ERA to 3.60, 13th best in the league.

The pitching was fierce for both sides in the finale. Mark Gubicza, Wade Davis, Kelvin Herrera, and Greg Holland combined to blank the Mariners. Holland put the first two batters on in the top of the ninth but then struck out the next three. Jamie Moyer lowered his ERA to 3.37, eighth in the league.

Ken Griffey had three of Seattle’s six hits, all singles. The Royals as a team collected only three hits, but Kevin Seitzer’s lead-off double in the fourth preceded a Mike Sweeney single later in the inning to plate the only run of the game.
