Cleveland Sweeps Hapless Detroit

mannyMay 19: Cleveland 7, Detroit 5

Nothing is going right for Detroit. They took a 5-4 lead into the ninth, but Tris Speaker, Joe Jackson, Nap Lajoie, and Jim Thome went 2B-1B-1B-BB against Jon Hiller, and the game was tied and Cleveland had just one out and runners on first and second. Hiller was replaced by Mike Henneman, who whiffed Hal Trosky to get the second out, but then Manny B. Manny singled in Lajoie and Thome. Man-Ram also homered earlier in the game. Jackson had three knocks with a double.

Ty Cobb reached first base safely four times, but could only score one run. The Tigers bats continued their stupefying lack of power by not knocking a single extra base hit. Detroit has the lowest team slugging percentage in the league at .369. Only Harry Heilmann is slugging above the league average of .412.

The Indians got three singles and a Man-Ram homer to score all their runs in the fifth inning.
