Houston Sweeps Seattle, Jumps From 6th Place to 2nd

May 19: Houston 6, Seattle 4

Seattle starter Mike Moore made his season debut. His day was somewhere between not great and not too bad. Moises Alou and Bob Watson both homered off him, but he limited the damage to four runs in his six innings. Mike Cuellar was better, and the Astros batsmen had a balanced attack that pushed across six runs.

May 20: Houston 9, Seattle 5

A Kenji Johjima error in the third was costly for the M’s. Instead of recording the third out and limiting the Astros to one run in the inning, Johjima’s flub allowed a run to score and the inning to continue. Bob Watson made the Mariners pay with a three run shot, one of his three hits of the day.

May 21: Houston 6, Seattle 4 (10 innings)

Well, at least Seattle made it to extras in this one. But Cesar Cedeno put the finishing touches on the sweep with a bomb off J.J. Putz in the bottom of the 10th. Raul Ibanez was a single short of a cycle for Seattle.
