First Place Texas Sweeps Last Place Anaheim

rafaMay 19: Texas 5, Anaheim 3 (12 innings)

Finally a starting pitcher faced himself! Nolan Ryan squared off against Nolan Ryan. Both Ryans were good, the Texas version a bit better, but this one was decided after both were out of the game.

Poor Anaheim. Jim Fregosi brought the drama with a two-out, two-run, game tying homer in the ninth to force extras. But it only delayed the pain, because Rafael Palmeiro hit a two-out, two-run, game winning homer in the 12th.

May 20: Texas 19, Anaheim 13

This was just a gross one. Every pitcher that came in looked like they were throwing batting practice. Juan Gonzalez led the hit parade with two dong pieces.

After that ugly display, Frank Tanana and Charlie Hough engaged in an excellent duel that remained scoreless after six and a half innings. A-Rod blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh, and then Texas widened the lead after Tanana exited on another A-Rod shot in the eighth.
