Boston Sweeps Away NY Hot Streak

May 19: Boston 5, New York 1

The Yanks were riding high coming into Boston, winners of 14 of their last 17, and just two games back of the Red Sox. Boston wasted no time letting New York know who was still in charge in the Original Division. Lefty Grove was aces, allowing only one run on an A-Rod blast. The Boston Machine singled Waite Hoyt into submission.

Jon Lester made a spot start for the Sox and acquitted himself nicely. Bob Shawkey continued his painfully bad season, and never could record the third out in the third inning as the Sox paraded around the bases. Carl Yastrzemski bonked two singles and a triple. Joe DiMaggio singled and doubled twice in a losing effort.
