They traded scores the next day. Julio Franco was 2-for-2 with two walks and a dong. He also hit into the season’s first triple play. Craig Biggio snagged a Gonzalez liner off his shoelaces, and quickly flipped to shortstop Dickie Thon who forced out Rafael Palmeiro at second. Running from first base, Josh Hamilton couldn’t tell that Biggio had made the snag and was too far off the bag before he realized the catch had been made. Thon fired it to first baseman Jeff Bagwell for the triple play.

ryan-texMay 3: Texas 6, Houston 3 (10 innings)

A third straight score of 6-3. After a good duel between Mike Cuellar and Nolan Ryan for seven innings didn’t settle things, it was a tough pill to swallow for Houston in the bottom of the 10th when Art Howe made an error to keep the inning going. Frank Howard dug in against Larry Anderson with two outs and sent one into orbit.

Both teams saved their worst for last in an ugly game marred by 17 walks. J.R. Richard couldn’t get out of the third inning. Adrian Beltre had three hits and went pachinko for the second straight game. Texas climbed above .500, joining Seattle as the only Expansion teams in the black.
