Fred McGriff became the first player to eight home runs with a solo shot in the third that helped Toronto carry a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh. But in that frame, Tim Salmon tied it up with a solo shot of his own, Mike Trout walked, Jim Edmonds singled Trout to third, and Vlad Guerrero drove Trout in for the go-ahead run with a ground-out to first. Salmon added four insurance runs in the eighth with a grand slam.

Game 2: Anaheim 2, Toronto 1

A well-pitched nail biter. After a fourth inning solo dong from Jose Bautista, Torii Hunter knotted the game with a HR in the bottom of the sixth. Troy Glaus followed the homer with a single, Jim Fregosi followed that with a walk, and it was curtains for Key. Kelvim Escobar took the mound, and gave up a single to his first batter, Jim Edmonds, that scored Glaus for the eventual winning run.

Game 3: Toronto 7, Anaheim 4

In addition to being in Toronto’s bullpen, Kelvim Escobar is also in Ahaheim’s rotation. He had a rough start for the Angles in game three, including allowing Fred McGriff’s ninth homer that helped Toronto avoid a sweep. McGriff is on pace for 61 round-trippers, and the Blue Jays lead the loop with 38 home runs. However, they’ve given up even more than they’ve hit, a league-worst 42 HR allowed.
