Game 1: New York 3, Oakland 0

Roger Clemens gave the visiting Athletics a rude welcome, not allowing them to cross home plate a single time all afternoon. Eddie Collins reached first base all four times up, but Jason Giambi, batting behind Collins, grounded into three double plays and one fielder’s choice. Mickey Mantle led off the bottom of the first with a single and Lou Gehrig tripled him home for what ended up being the winning run.

Game 2: New York 6, Oakland 3

Barry Zito did not allow a ton of base runners, but he couldn’t keep the Yankees in tiny Yankees Stadium. Gehrig, Bernie Williams, and Yogi Berra all went ya-ya, and Bernie Williams added a fourth dong against Justin Duchscherer.

Game 3: Oakland 7, New York 4

The Sultan of Swat accidentally swatted away Rickey Henderson’s game-opening fly ball to left and gave Rickey first base. Rickey stole second, and Rickey scored on an Eddie Collins single. Rickey is good at baseball. Collins went 5-for-5 with a double and four RBI in the game.
